So what makes us cool? Good Design - function and beauty. The ability to recognise when something is designed well, has beauty, and fulfills a function. What is beauty without a purpose?
For those of us who design websites, this is not a theoretical question. If there is such a thing as beauty, we need to be able to understand when it's also good design. So, how do you design good stuff?
First you have to understand what web design is?
Web design is the creation of digital environments that facilitate and encourage human activity; reflect or adapt to individual voices and content; and change gracefully over time while always retaining their identity.
Photography
I love taking photos. Quick snaps of faces, places - something that catches my eye. I enjoy less doing the careful setup and arrangement of commercial photography. Thank god for digital! I can take thousands of photos and later play, edit, and explore. Often I am surprised with the amazing things I capture.
Food for Thought
The primary goal of any web form, says Wroblewski, is “getting people through them quickly and easily”. Forms are barriers between user needs and business goals, and naturally both sides of the equation want to see these hurdles removed. “It’s no wonder,” he continues, “that form design matters.”
